When I was diagnosed with cancer, one of my doctors suggested that I use Frankincense and Myrrh, applied topically to my tumor-site. Before I invested in those somewhat expensive items, I decided to do more research. It turns out that these two oils have an interesting history, and I'm not talking about the three wise men and the birth of Jesus; Frankincense and Myrrh are currently involved in cancer treatment studies all over the world because they have exhibited countless healing benefits in many rigorous medical studies. Here is a breakdown of the science behind Frankincense and Myrrh, and why they are so special.

" The problem with the ancients is that they tried to make medicine an art and failed. The problem with the moderns is they tried to make it a business and succeeded."
It's important to remember that modern medicine comes from plants. Where scientifically sound naturopathy and modern technology merge is where we are going to find our most effective treatments and medicines that cure patients while also providing a good quality of life, rather than decreasing quality of life with unnecessary side-effects.
I did use 100% pure, certified frankincense and myrrh oils in a carrier oil, applied topically to my tumor 3 times a day for a few months, and saw significant tumor shrinkage. I also noticed a significant difference when I stopped using it (the mass would grow slowly) versus when I used it even semi-regularly (I never observed any growth). However, because that is just one personal anectdote/ story, here are the scientific facts:
MYRRH {commiphora myrrha}:
Myrrh is mentioned in some of the oldest known medical texts, used to treat many diseases and illnesses. Two of the most active compounds in myrrh are TERPENOIDS and SESQUITERPENES. Sesquiterpenes can cross the blood-brain barrier and access the central nervous system. The blood brain barrier is a highly selective semipermeable membrane that separates blood from the brain and extracellular fluid in the central nervous system. It is "highly selective and semipermeable" because it keeps out toxins, pathogens, large molecules, or anything that could cause a brain infection or injury, however, it allows necessary nutrients (and lipid soluble nutrients) to pass through and into the brain.
Both Sesquiterpenes and Terpenoids are highly anti-inflammatory and antiseptic.
In its phytochemical form, called beta-bisabolene, myrrh is toxic against human breast cancer cells and prostate cancer cells. (To read one study about this, click HERE).
Shockingly, it's descovered that myrrh has such a strong anti-tumor effect, using it as a treatment was comparable to the standard cancer drug Cyclophosphamide, with much less severe side effects. Myrrh interrupts cancer cells' ability to grow and divide (proliferation).
FRANKINCENSE {Boswellia Serrata}:
Like myrrh, frankincense is very impressive in medical studies. There are too many studies to list all of the proven benefits and results from each, so check out the various articles and studies I linked at the end of this page. Here, I will summarize some of the most important and relevant aspects of frankincense.
Strongly Anti Cancer: Chemical compound AKBA (Acetyl - II - keto - beta - bosewellic acid) targets cancer cells. Frankincense extract has anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic activities in rat astrocytoma cell lines and in human leukemia cell lines, as well as their anti-carcinogenic activity in chemically induced mouse skin cancer models. (reference link HERE) Clinically, extract from the resin reduces the peritumoral edema in glioblastoma patients and reverses multiple brain metastases in a breast cancer patient (click HERE for reference).
Frankincense oil is able to distinguish normal cells from cancerous ones.
In addition to being able to target the bad, frankincense actually boosts the immune system, and increases white blood cell counts! One type of white blood cell are Killer-T cells, which can kill other cells ( ones infected with a virus, and even cancer cells). This is one of the main reasons having a strong immune system is so important when fighting cancer, or any illness.
Frankincense decreases inflammation and fights infections. When your body is fighting a disease, you want it to spend all its energy on that disease, not waste it fighting other infections.
Lastly, Frankincense regulates cellular epigenetic machinery (one source HERE). This means it has the ability to influence cells to promote healing. Let me explain it this way: the body's cells promote healing in many different ways, through killer T cells getting rid of mutated cells, immune cells carrying away toxins, but each cell that does the healing, needs to be told to do so by the body. Frankincense is able to directly tell/trigger cells to do their job.
I could go on for days about everything the medical community has discovered with these two oils, but rather than read my ramblings, it would be most beneficial to let you read the studies for yourself! I link a few that I reference in this post, below:
